A main street in Melbourne’s city centre has been shut down and the Bomb Response Unit has been called to the scene.

Another street in Melbourne’s CBD has been shut down and the bomb squad is on the scene again conducting a police operation.
Investigators were called to Little Collins St at about 4.10pm.
“Police are currently conducting a safety check in Melbourne,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“The Bomb Response Unit is currently on scene.
“The investigation is ongoing.”

Swanston St has been closed off between Collins St and Bourke St and Little Collin St is also closed to traffic between Russell St and Elizabeth St.
Surrounding buildings have also been evacuated.
Footage obtained by Nine News show a bomb disposal unit inspecting a large bag on a footpath.
This new operation comes just hours after the bomb squad was called to Lonsdale St in the CBD.
Police were called to Lonsdale St just before 2pm. The street has been reopened after being closed street between Cohen Pl and Exhibition St.

An officer dressed in a bomb suit then approached the suitcase after the unit had finished its assessment.
Police reportedly recovered electrical items out of the bag, which was initially believed to be suspicious.
“Police have concluded their safety check and no issues were found,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

One Twitter user said she was evacuated from a building she was in on Lonsdale St.
Motorists were earlier told to follow the directions of emergency services to consider using Collins, Bourke or La Trobe streets instead.
Northbound traffic on Exhibition St towards Victoria St was also detoured onto Little Bourke St.
