Pupil dies in school after classmate cuts him with panga

A Class Eight Pupil is recording statement with police after he allegedly slashed to death his classmate at Randani Primary School in Kenyenya, Kisii County. Police in Kenyenya led by the Sub County police boss Philip Oyugi have since launched investigation into the death of the pupil. Oyugi said the two minors both aged 13 were playing at the school ground when the deceased was cut on his right thigh. "Wesley Obare and his classmate were playing in the field when the former was accidentally cut with a panga." Obare is reported to have died due to excessive bleeding after he was left lying at the scene within the school compound for long as teachers were held up in a staff meeting. The pupil together with his classmates had just completed clearing the compound on their first day in school for the 2020 academic year. The deceased’s parents Simon Obare and Mirriam Kerubo have also recorded statements with the investigating officers.

According to Gladys Ondara, the late pupil’s aunt, her nephew came home for lunch on Monday before he left for school in the afternoon with a panga. "We are saddened with the loss but all we ask for is justice and speedy investigations by relevant Government agencies." In class, the deceased and the suspect sat on the same raw.
